September 18 at 3:12pm · Just met with my amazing editor, and gave her my manuscript for The Eye of Hermes. So lucky to have an awesome editor like Patti O'Brien. So thankful to Marie Gilbert for introducing me to such a wonderful editor.
Thank you, William! I am so excited to begin my second edit of The Eye of Hermes (formerly Minerva Awakening, which we agreed was not the best title).
William is a talented writer with a great imagination...and a manuscript so full of characters and adventure that you won't be able to put it down! Then again, all those characters and adventures can get confusing.
I sat down with William for about three hours one Sunday afternoon six months ago to go over the manuscript I'd edited. There was a lot to talk about and he was receptive to it all. Good editors need good writers, ones who understand that we are there for them, not against them. Writers often make the mistake of thinking their words are so precious and perfect that not a thing should be changed.
But of course there will be changes; sometimes lots of them! Good writers understand that when an editor says something is confusing, it is. And if it confuses the editor--who's pouring over your manuscript and reading it deeply--it sure as anything will confuse your casual reader, right?
So thank you, William, for trusting me with your story. It is my honor to work with you!
